Fear/Stress
Take back control of your life...
Does just the thought of speaking in front of a group fill you with absolute dread?
For others, it is the prospect of getting on an airplane or driving long distances that triggers the sweaty palms and butterflies
in the stomach.
One of the worst parts of all this is the sense that life is passing you by. You want to get on
that plane. You want to pass that promotional exam. You want to give that talk. But...
A large percentage of us
have what might be described as irrational and unwanted fears. This is where an individual experiences an exaggerated fight
or flight stress reaction in response to something he or she knows at a conscious, rational level is reasonably safe. How
would you like trade that fear for something far better like calm, cool and in control? The question is how?
Such fears defy being reasoned away by our selves or others, in fact taking the “rational approach” some
times makes matters worse in that in addition to having the fear we now are considered irrational! Over time we may even become
very skilled at rationalizing why our particular fear makes sense! I should know, as I once had a strong fear of public speaking
and used hypnosis to overcome it. I now routinely speak in front of groups and have become quite comfortable in doing so.
The first thing to keep in mind with these types of fears is that no one consciously decides
to develop one. Rather, in response to a particularly frightening incident or a set of situations, the subconscious mind automatically
set up a protective response in order to keep us safe. The problem is that this kind of mental program can persist beyond
its usefulness.
For example, I was able to trace my fear of speaking in front of groups to an incident where a
grade school teacher humiliated me while I was in front of the class. Developing that fear in the context of being a not overly
confident child made perfect sense at the time-but it became a limitation that served no purpose as I became an adult.
Many years later during my training as a hypnotherapist, I learned how to rapidly diminish
my unwanted fears and I truly enjoy applying these skills and techniques to help others. Since that time I have helped quite
a number of people overcome fears related to: -Public speaking. -Flying. -Insects. -Test taking. -Heights. -Performance anxiety.

Are you STRESSED?!?! Take this Quiz and Find Out!
Some researchers believe that poorly managed stress causes or contributes to virtually all known disease. Doesn't
it make sense to take action before there is a real problem on your hands?
Quite frequently by reducing stress
other positive things will happen for a person almost automatically. Who hasn’t known someone who had a change for the
better in his or her relationships or job situation and lost excess weight in the process? Very often an issue such as weight
management has far less to do with following a specific diet plan as it does with establishing emotional comfort and security.
A Certified Hypnotist has a number of tools at his or her disposal to help you manage the stress and change in your
life in healthy and constructive way.
Try the short quiz below to see if you would benefit from a hypnosis consultation: Give yourself 5 points for each stress symptom you consider frequent/severe, 3 for occasional/moderate, 1 for rare/mild
and 0 if non-applicable.
Physical Stress Symptoms: Stiff neck and shoulders
Grinding teeth Fatigue Headaches Digestive problems Cold hands/feet Muscle tension Behavioral: Excessive eating Excessive drinking Smoking Insomnia Sleeping
too much Frequent accidents Forgetfulness
Emotional: Irritability
Tired Sadness Lack of interest in pleasurable activities
Scoring*: 0-29 points:
you are doing an excellent job at managing your stress, keep up the good work! 30-59 points: you would benefit from learning
and applying stress management skills. 60-90 points: you need to take immediate action, a high level of stress can lead
to serious physical and mental illness over time. Please note that any significant and/or persistent changes in your health
status should be reported to your physician.

Stress Quiz Part 2- Is the picture below moving or still? Scroll
down to discover the answer.
This is a still picture in every sense of the word. Stare at one
dot and the apparent motion stops. People under a high level of stress will see the dots moving rapidly; a calmer person will
see the dots as being still or slowly moving. A Certified Hypnotist can teach YOU how to push the Calm Button!
